Meetings

Meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm at our Main Branch in Petersburg

The function of the regular meetings of the Library Board of Trustees is to conduct the business of the Pike County Public Library system. It is important to note that a library board meeting is a meeting conducted in public, not a public meeting. There is an opportunity to at every board meeting for public comment. A written summary of public comments will be prepared and added to the end of the minutes of the meeting for review by the Library Board following public meetings.

Our Mission  – To inspire learning and fun for all while preserving the history of Pike County.

The Pike County Public library will strive to serve the public by offering a large selection of print and electronic reference resources covering a broad variety of
topics. We will provide staff that are skillful in determining users’ needs and in locating relevant information that satisfies those needs. We will continue to stay updated with a very current collection that contains titles that are in demand in
the format the public wants. This collection will be available for readers of all ages.

The library will also provide basic resources, facilities and tools that students enrolled in formal educational programs or participating in home schooling, need in order to learn. Those resources may include individual and group study space, print or electronic resources, or computer hardware. We will also
cooperate with institutions of learning by providing resources that are basic or supplementary to those provided by the local schools.

We know that Pike County is one of the many counties in Indiana with a rich background of history. This is why we strive to provide a significant collection of print and non-print materials that chronicle the history of Pike County and surrounding areas. The collection will include state and local publications, family histories, census records, and historic maps.

The library also recognizes there are some that simply cannot make it out of their houses to visit us. This is why the library maintains an outreach service which is responsive to the needs of the county. We will continue to re-evaluate and expand to adequately service the outlying areas of the county, schools, nursing homes, and other organizations.
